It’s been about five years in the works, but Scott Turvey of Fort Frances finally has gotten his new business off the ground, with it officially opening just weeks ago.
EnviroClean Housekeeping Systems is a licensed, insured, bonded, and professional cleaning service for home or businesses using environmentally-responsible methods.
“It’s something I was considering for a while because I can really see the future of green,” Turvey noted. “I think people are becoming eco-friendly and want to work towards that end.”
He said he’s viewed statistics that indicated about 25 percent of smog is caused by household cleaning supplies.
“We’ve got to do something about that,” he stressed, adding he saw a demand in the area for a licensed housekeeper using safer methods.
Turvey noted he spent months finding a supplier who offered products he felt were the best.
These products are green-seal certified, biodegradable, and low toxic, if not non-toxic. And, of course, this makes them much safer for the environment.
“They’re good for people suffering from allergies or asthma,” he explained. “And they’re much safer for kids and pets. You don’t have to worry about them being around after the place has been cleaned.”
In addition, Turvey said the products he uses contain either essential oil fragrance or are non-scented.
“This makes a big difference for people who are sensitive,” he explained, though adding it’s not just the products, but also the techniques he uses, which make his new cleaning business ideal.
For example, Turvey compared a synthetic duster to a microfibre cloth. “The microfibre cloth that I use holds dust instead of spreading it around,” he remarked.
The new business also is operating with commercial equipment and special commercial cleaner that is environmentally-friendly.
“In the past, environmentally-friendly cleaners were less than satisfactory, but the new commercial lines are superior in cleaning ability to what you would find in a household cleaner,” Turvey stressed, noting more jobs can be done with one cleaner and be done well.
“Four cleaners should do everything in your house, besides the laundry,” he said.
It currently is available to service homes or businesses located from Mine Centre to Emo, but Turvey hopes to expand his endeavour down the road.
Although the business is being run out of his home at present, Turvey has plans to open a storefront in Fort Frances early in 2009. And he’d eventually like to have his service available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Right now, EnviroClean is open Monday through Sunday from 8 a.m.-8 p.m.
Turvey also will be selling some of the environmentally-friendly cleaner or guiding customer to where they can purchase them.
“People are getting wise,” he stressed. “They are beginning to understand there is a better way to do it that they have been doing for the last 30 years.”
EnviroClean Housekeeping Systems can be reached at 276-0800. Turvey encourages anyone with questions or looking for quotes to call.
