Muskies impress this fan

Being from the hometown of the Ottawa Senators, I know good hockey (sorry, Leafs fans, but yes I am a die-hard Sens fan).
And just for the record, did anyone else see that Ottawa versus Toronto game 10 days ago when the Sens took it 8-0?
Anyway, one team I am very impressed with is the Fort Frances Muskies.
For the first time since becoming the new sports reporter for the Times, I had the pleasure of watching the Muskies play in their exhibition series against Thunder Bay and Shattuck St. Mary’s on the weekend.
What a show they put on!
To be honest, I didn’t really know what to expect from a high school hockey team. Because in Ottawa, high school team (which no one ever came out for) was like watching a bunch of guys playing shinny on the side of the road.
Well, this was no shinny—this was great hockey.
With hundreds of fans at the rink to support the local team, I watched as the Muskies skated circles around the Kings and Shattuck St. Mary’s. That was the first thing I noticed: their footwork on the ice was unreal.
The team played so well together and had no problem following through on their plays.
I know part of how well the team meshed together on the ice can be attributed to the fact that it is a veteran team. But regardless, each player had something unique to offer on the ice.
Although the team was missing a couple of key forwards, it didn’t seem to faze them in the least. I can’t wait to see how they play with all the stars on the ice.
Like head coach Shane Bliss said, NorWOSSA is a tough league and in order to have continued success, the Muskies will have to continually improve—especially if they hope to do well next March when they host the all-Ontarios.
But isn’t that the case with almost any team in any sport?
Keep up the good work, boys, and I look forward to watching your games in the future. In the meantime, “Go Sens Go!”
Just kidding. My new line is “Go Muskies Go!”
