Muskies go 3-1 in Morden

The Muskie boys’ hockey team saw their first action of the season away from town over the weekend, coming away with a 3-1 record and the ‘C’ bracket crown at a tournament in Morden, Man.
“The first two games, it was poor,” head coach Shane Bliss said. “We weren’t skating at all, no effort. It was like someone else was waiting for someone else to step up, you know?
“No one wanted to take the lead,” he stressed.
The Muskies opened action with a 2-1 win over the Pembina Tigers, but then lost 6-2 to the Mountain Mustangs.
But Fort High bounced back, dumping the Red Lake Rams 7-2 and then the Kenora Broncos 7-1 in the ‘C’ final.
“We started moving our feet, we started trying to be the first to the puck,” Bliss noted. “We started burying the puck, and that was the difference.”
The Muskies head to Red Lake this weekend for a pair of games to open the NorWOSSA season, and Bliss expects the team will have learned a few lessons in Morden.
“I just hope the last two games are an indication of how we’re going to be playing this weekend against Red Lake,” he remarked. “We say it every year but it is tough to play up there.”
