The dress rehearsal is over–time for the big show.
Each Muskie squad put momentum on their side heading into the NorWOSSA finals here this Friday by taking care of their last bit of regular-season business yesterday against the host Kenora Broncos.
The Muskie senior girls’ volleyball team coughed up a big first-set lead but recovered to sweep the Broncos by scores of 27-25, 25-21, and 25-13.
With the victory, the squad finished in first place with a 7-1 record and earned a bye to Friday’s final at 5:30 p.m. in its bid to snap the 15-year championship dynasty of the Dryden Eagles.
The junior girls also finished in top spot at 7-1 after downing the last-place Broncos by a 3-1 margin (25-14, 17-25, 25-12, and 25-11).
The Muskies will face the winner of the Kenora-Dryden semi-final, with the final slated for 3:45 p.m.
In boys’ basketball action yesterday, the senior Muskies capped a 5-3 regular-season campaign by routing Kenora 83-38.
Aaron Bujold netted a game-high 17 points to lead a balanced attack that saw four players reach double digits.
Cole Kowalski, battling strep throat, still managed net 16 while Joey Angus had 15 and Liam Metke added 10.
Craig Ferguson had nine to pace the Broncos (1-7), who will try to upset the Muskies in Friday’s semi-final at 11:30 a.m.
And in junior play, Mike Vanderaa drilled three three-pointers en route to a team-leading 13 points as Fort High downed Kenora 51-46.
Garrett Hyatt added 10 points while Caleb Allen had nine for the Muskies (2-6).
The Broncos, who had a game-high 15 points from Kolbi White-Loon, will face Fort High in Friday’s semi-final at 10 a.m.
