Jordan Sinclair probably wished he was a football coach rather than a hockey one yesterday.
Then he could have declined the penalties being given to his opposition, who proved much more dangerous one player down than his team was one player up.
Sinclair watched helplessly as Aaron Myers notched three short-handed goals as the host Thief River Falls Prowlers rolled to a 4-2 win over the Muskie boys’ hockey team in the final game of a three-day tournament there.
Myers also scored his team’s other goal.
Fort High actually outshot the Prowlers 34-13 but finished the event with a 1-2 record after blanking the Grand Forks Central Knights 3-0 on Tuesday and then losing 5-1 to the Crookston Pirates on Wednesday.
Myers had the lone goal in the first and the Prowlers’ only goal of the second—both times with a teammate in the box—to give his squad a 2-0 lead.
Chase McGuire tied it up with goals 4:42 apart midway through the frame, including one with the man advantage.
But Myers lit the lamp again at 2:23 of the third during a Muskie power play before netting his only even-strength tally just 1:08 later.
Nick Corneliusen made 32 saves to earn the win while Spencer Murphy had just nine stops for the black-and-gold.
The Muskies next head to Hallock, Mn. to face the Kittson Bearcats on Tuesday.
Their next home game is Jan. 10 against the Kenora Broncos.
