It was a job well done for both the Muskie girls’ and boys’ hockey teams Friday afternoon in Kenora.
Both squads came away victorious to sweep their respective best-of-three NorWOSSA semi-final series to advance to the championship round.
Captain Annalise (CC) Hayes netted a hat trick while Kelsey Langtry notched a pair of goals and added four helpers to pace the Muskie girls to an 18-0 romp over the Broncos to sweep the series 2-0.
Siobhan Mackintosh, Jenna Clendenning, Hanna Ledrew, and Avery Cates each scored twice.
Clendenning, Langtry (two), Cates, Ledrew, Mackintosh, and Hayes all tallied in the first period as Fort High jumped out to a 7-0 lead after 20 minutes.
Hayes (two), Reece McQuaker, Mackintosh, Emily Kaun, Ledrew, and Jillian Calder then bulged the twine in the second to make it 14-0.
Taylor Croswell, Jessica Steele, Clendenning, and Cates capped the scoring with third-period goals.
Carly McKinnon earned the shutout.
The Muskies had routed the Broncos 14-0 in Game 1 last Tuesday (Feb. 20) at the Ice For Kids Arena.
McKinnon also earned the shutout in that one.
Fort High now will face the Dryden Eagles in the best-of-three NorWOSSA final, which is set to begin tomorrow at 7:15 p.m. at the Ice For Kids Arena.
Game 2 is set for Friday (March 2) in Dryden, with Game 3 (if necessary) back here on Monday.
The black-and-gold went 3-0-1 against the Eagles during the regular season.
The Muskie boys, meanwhile, used five different goal scorers to earn a 5-0 victory over the St. Thomas Aquinas Saints to sweep their series 2-0.
Cole Magill, Cole Allan, Kaleb Bruyere, Eric Pitkanen, and Kendyn Faragher all bulged the twine to pace the black-and-gold’s attack.
Darian Klem earned the shutout.
Fort High claimed Game 1 last Wednesday by a 4-1 margin at “The Duke” (Couchiching Arena).
The Muskies now advance to the best-of-three NorWOSSA final against the Sioux Lookout Warriors.
Fort High took all three games between the squads during the regular season.
The schedule for the boys’ final has yet to be announced, but Games 1 and 3 (if necessary) will be played here as the black-and-gold have home-ice advantage by virtue of finishing in first place in the regular season.
