Muskie boys’ roster set

The Muskie boys’ hockey team completed tryouts Friday and has the squad it hopes can earn a seventh-straight trip to the all-Ontarios.
“We have quite a few different guys, some new defenceman with [Tyson] McLean and [Nathan] Calder,” said second-year head coach Shawn Jourdain.
“And with [Chris] Cousineau and Jamie Kaun back, we should be fairly solid on the back end,” he noted.
Also providing a boost will be the return of Dustin Brown after a season spent with the Thunder Bay Kings.
“Dustin Brown will be a big plus for us with his experience considering the level he’s played,” Jourdain said.
One Grade 9 player, Colton Spicer, impressed enough during tryouts to crack the roster while fifth-year returnees Mike Jourdain, Matt DePiero, and Kaun all will be counted on considering their experience at the high school level.
Wes Brown and returnee Devin Stromness likely will split time in goal.
The Muskies will open the season with an exhibition tournament in Dryden on Oct. 29-31 before beginning NorWOSSA play Nov. 17 at home against the Kenora Broncos.
Twelve seniors, two Grade 11s, five Grade 10s and one freshman make up the squad.
The roster also includes Jeff Davis, Nick Jourdain, Nick Kaun, Brendan Cawston, David Chambers, Devon Ball, Donovan Cousineau, Jacob Witherspoon, Brett McMahon, and Davis Smith.
