Muskie ‘birders’ stave off exit

The Muskie boys’ doubles badminton team won their first match in the face of elimination after two losses to open the provincial championships in Waterloo.
Tim Desjardins and Jamie Jensen dropped their first match yesterday against Michael Kosziwka and Sandford Mick of the Golden Horseshoe Athletic Conference by scores of 15-1 and 15-7.
They then lost their Flight ‘B’ match to Ben Hoornweg and Gren Prinzen, representing the Central Ontario Secondary Schools Association.
But the Muskie duo tasted victory this morning against John Ochangco and Jordan Catibog of the Toronto District College Athletic Association in a Flight ‘C’ match.
(The scores for their last two matches were not provided to the Times).
The tournament wraps up tomorrow.
Meanwhile, three doubles teams from Rainy River High School also are competing at OFSAA.
Both the girls’ doubles team of Hillary Hansen and Chantel Heyens, as well as and the mixed doubles team of Nick Ashworth and Carly Nordin, were competing in Flight ‘C’ matches at last report.
