More crews off to battle blazes

the MNR

The Ministry of Natural Resources’ Aviation and Forest Fire Management division is responding to another request for forest firefighter support to British Columbia.
A total of 114 personnel, including two four-person FireRanger crews and one division supervisor from Fort Frances, were set to depart today from Sudbury and Dryden, bound for Prince George, B.C.
They will join the 64 others, including one four-person FireRanger crew from here, who have been in B.C. since Friday for a total of 178 fire personnel.
Meanwhile, no new fires were reported in the West Fire Region over the weekend or yesterday.
FireRangers continue to focus on proficiency training and readiness in anticipation of an increase in fire activity as the forest fire hazard rises.
The fire hazard is “moderate” to “high” across Northwestern Ontario.
Warm temperatures and sunny, dry conditions have resulted in a rapid increase in the fire hazard.
