The Fort Frances Chamber of Commerce has some chefs lined up for its annual “Great Canadian Chili Cook-Off” this Wednesday (Sept. 16) but is leaving the door open a little longer for those who may be hesitating.
Chamber executive director Jennifer Soderholm said seven teams have signed up to enter chili in the contest but there’s room for five more.
“Anyone who’s still interested, we’re still accepting,” she remarked.
While today was the registration deadline, Soderholm said she’ll accept entries as late as Monday.
Teams have to make their chili on Tuesday.
Those interested are urged to contact Soderholm A.S.A.P. at 274-5773 or via e-mail at thefort@fortfranceschamber.com
The teams confirmed so far include:
•Gizhewaadiziwin Health Access Centre;
•Community Living Fort Frances and District;
•Northern Lights Credit Union;
•Fort Frances Tribal Area Health Services;
•Seven Generations Education Institute;
•Boston Pizza; and
•Sunset Country Métis.
This year’s theme is “New Orleans Chili Gras,” with teams being urged to get into the Mardi Gras spirit both with their recipes and decorations/costumes.
The chili cook-off will take place Wednesday from 11:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. at the local Legion.
The cost is $7 for a sample platter or $5 for a bowl of chili (includes bun and a drink).
As in past years, those who purchase the sample platter will get a ballot to vote for which chili they think is best.
Meanwhile, a panel of judges will taste the chili and score their favourites.
It also is hoped the event will feature a cake roulette but last-minute details on that still are being confirmed.
