More candidates file for election


With the nomination deadline to run in the Oct. 22 municipal election looming, a number of new candidates across the district have tossed their hats into the ring.
Here in Fort Frances, Harold Huntley, Andrew Hallikas, Douglas Judson, and Michael Behan filed their paperwork to run for town council over the past week.
They join incumbent Wendy Brunetta and Clinton D.C. Gray, who previously had filed to run for council.
As of press time today, Coun. June Caul and Coun. Ken Perry were the only two candidates to have filed to run for mayor of Fort Frances.
Donald Marquis also filed his papers to run as a trustee with the Northwest Catholic District School Board.
In La Vallee Township, Ross Donaldson and Ken McKinnon have filed nominations to run for reeve.
Brendan Loney and Harrold Boven, meanwhile, have filed to run for council in Emo.
Gary Judson recently added his name to run for reeve of Chapple while Phillip Schram has filed to run for council there.
In Morley, Andrew McCormick, Gary Jolicouer, and Maria Vandenbrand have filed to run for seats on council.
In Rainy River, Martin Kreger, Susan Carpenter, Pat White, and Larry Armstrong are seeking re-election to council.
Mayor Deborah Ewald also is seeking re-election.
And in Sioux Narrows-Nestor Falls, Wayne Helliar has filed for the position of councillor for Ward 2.
Nominations close at 2 p.m. this Friday (July 27).
