The Fort Frances Lions Club held its annual “Dandy Lion Festival” on Sunday afternoon at the Lions Park on Second Street East.
Club member Bonnie Penney said she was very pleased with the crowd that turned out to enjoy the hotdogs, cake, live music, and kids’ activities.
“Quite a few people here; that is good to see,” she remarked.
During the event, the club also invited those who had purchased a brick in memory of a loved one to place it in the path around the fountain.
Twenty-seven bricks bearing inscriptions were laid Sunday, replacing blank ones in the pathway.
One such brick was placed by Susan and Kyleigh Ossachuk in memory of their husband/father, John Ossachuk, who passed away at the end of May.
A family close to the Ossachuks purchased the brick for them to place in his memory.
“It’s a wonderful way to remember him,” Susan Ossachuk said after they tapped down the brick and filled sand around its edges.
She noted her children played at the park quite a bit when they were younger as the family lives just down the street.
“It actually feels really good to know that will be there for a long time,” she added.
“Right between the fountain and the flowers, and close to home, too,” echoed Kyleigh Ossachuk.
The family said they missed him while others around chimed in, saying he was an amazing person, very well-known and with a lot of one-liners.
“We picked a good spot, right in the middle of the path almost,” Kyleigh noted.
The family also noted the work the Fort Frances Lions Club does in the community, and were thankful to be able to place the brick as a memento in the park.
Penney said bricks can be purchased for loved ones who have passed away by calling her at 270-7693.
