Men’s conference set

On the heels of the successful women’s healing conference, “Maa’aawichige Agamig,” which was held earlier this month at the Nanicost gymnasium, a similar event—but this time for men—is being presented there March 25-28.
Hosted by the Fort Frances Tribal Area Health Services Inc.’s Counselling Unit, all men, especially those from local First Nation communities, are invited to participate in the four days of workshops.
Invitations also have gone out to the communities in the Treaty #3 jurisdiction.
“It should be really good. We’re hoping for a good turnout,” said Harold Tookenay, noting guests have been designated to speak on an aspect of the medicine wheel.
Some of the presenters will include David Beaulieu (Adult Children of Alcoholics and Recovery), Eileene Gagne (I am a Kind Man), Joe Hunter (Grief and the Anishinabe Man), Prof. Herbert Nabigon (The Psychology of Being Anishinabe Man, in the Family and in the Community), and Debbie Whetzel (A Women’s Perspective on Healing).
There also will be cedar baths conducted by Karen Manitowabi and her assistants. Healing ceremonies will be made available to anyone who asks for one.
The conference will run daily from 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m., with a light lunch provided. Registration on the first day begins at 8:30 a.m.
There is no cost to attend.
On the final day, hypnotist Scott Ward will be on stage from 6-8 p.m. to close the event.
Each of the four days of the conference deals with a different type of healing, such as physical healing, emotional healing, mental healing, and spiritual healing.
