A Wabigoon man has been fined $2,000 after pleading guilty to a variety of hunting offences.
Pat Daignault, 52, was fined $1,000 for careless hunting, $500 for providing false information to a conservation officer, and $500 for illegal possession of a deer.
He also was banned from hunting for one year, and must take and pass the hunter education course before applying for a hunting licence.
The deer was forfeited to the Crown. His firearm will be returned after the fines are paid. On Oct. 27, 2007, Daignault was hunting east of Dryden when he spotted a deer in the front yard of a home. He shot and killed the deer, dragged it off the property, gutted it down the road, and loaded it into his vehicle.
Ministry of Natural Resources conservation officers from Dryden District were called to the scene and witnesses identified Daignault as a possible suspect.
The officers spoke with Daignault at his home and initially he provided a false story about the harvested deer in his possession.
However, after officers presented him with evidence they had collected, he confessed.
Justice of the Peace Edith Baas heard the case May 20 in Dryden.
