Members of the Treaty #3 Police Service South Sub-Division were dispatched to a reported altercation at a Couchiching First Nation residence last Friday evening.
An investigation revealed a male had assaulted a female and then seriously injured a male, who was taken to La Verendrye Hospital for treatment.
The male then barricaded himself in the residence and threatened to harm himself with a firearm.
The T3PS, along with T3PS Crime Unit, the Fort Frances OPP Crime Unit, the OPP’s Emergency Response Team and Tactical Rescue Unit, crisis negotiators, the K-9 Unit, and incident command staff, were deployed.
In the interest of public safety, numerous residences in the immediate area were evacuated.
Following a lengthy negotiation, the male was arrested and charged with assault, assault with a weapon, and two counts of failing to comply with a recognizance.
