After being cancelled last Thursday due to inclement weather, clear skies and little wind made for perfect conditions for the annual youth soccer tournament here for students in grades four-six.
“I think we have got beautiful weather and ideal conditions . . . very successful,” enthused Paul Farrah, co-organizer of the grade four tournament held at Sixth Street School.
The tournament is just for fun and usually scores from the games aren’t tallied.
“We don’t keep track of who wins or anything–this is just a fun thing,” noted grade four teacher Terry Hrychuk, who was at St. Francis School to watch the grade five students play.
Bill James, who helped organize the games at Sixth Street School and was coaching some of the grade four students, agreed the tournament is just some friendly competition.
“I believe it is just a fun tournament,” he remarked.
“Yes, these games are just for fun,” echoed Farrah. “We have got some results but I don’t know if we will tally them or not.
“A lot of the kids play organized soccer so this tournament is pretty laid back,” he added.
Overall, those who helped organize the tournaments agreed the day was a success.
“Excellent,” enthused James. “I am very pleased with all the teams. They played hard for the level of competition and did well for their age.”
“It is nice to get together with everyone who is playing,” added Farrah. “There was a girl in my class who transferred from another school and because of today’s tournament, she gets to see all of her friends.”
