Yacht club starts season

The Rendezvous Yacht Club kicked off its sailing season with a race last Wednesday (May 23).
Three sailboats competed in a windward/leeward course in Sand Bay to open the Wednesday Night Race Series.
When the course times were adjusted for handicaps, only 18 seconds separated the three boats.
In the end, club commodore Tim Mack won the race with a time of 32:07 aboard his San Juan known as “Night Moves.”
In second place was Quinn McCarthy aboard the S2 Sedna while placing third was Colin Hewitt on “Ariba,” a Catalina 25.
Their times were 32:23 and 32:25, respectively.
The Wednesday Night Races continue throughout the summer, with the Saturday race series slated to begin June 16.

Meanwhile, for those interested in learning to sail, the club has a new program this year, which will be held June 23-24.
Participants receive a membership in the club and two days’ of instruction. Each day will include two hours of classroom instruction, followed by an afternoon of crewing aboard members’ boats.
The program is intended for area adults to learn the skills needed to crew aboard any of the local sailboats.
Classes will be held at La Place Rendez-Vous, with a cost of $25 (U.S.) or $30 (Cdn.)
