Last week, there was an opportunity to stumble and not pay too dearly.
Tonight leaves no mercy for the same transgression.
The Fort Frances Women’s Volleyball League enters the second round of playoffs with six of the league’s 12 teams headed for an early postseason exit after tonight’s action dictates who moves on to the ‘B’ Side quarter-finals next week.
No 4-ranked No Diggity (78 points this season) will have to win twice tonight on the ‘B’ Side to avoid being the highest-seeded team to be sent packing.
No Diggity lost its playoff opener last Thursday (March 26) to No. 5-ranked Spiked Punch (70) to fall into the consolation bracket and takes on No. 11-rated Sloppy Sets (24) at Fort Frances High School at 7 p.m.
The survivor then plays a win-or-go-home matchup at 9 p.m. against the winner of No. 8-seeded Gillons’ Northerners (60) and No. 10-rated Rockstars (33), who also play at Fort High at 7 p.m.
Gillons’ beat No. 9-seeded Wild Sets (35) last week, but then were downed by the top-ranked One Hit Wonders (108).
Rockstars were dumped by No. 7-rated Let’s Talk About Sets (65) in their opening playoff match.
In 8 p.m. games at Fort High, Wild Sets will face Let’s Talk About Sets, who dropped to the ‘B’ Side after losing to No. 2-seeded Scared Hitless (86) last week.
Whomever comes out on top will advance to a 9 p.m. game to challenge the winner of another 8 p.m. matchup between No. 6-rated Bump It Up (67) looking to eliminate No. 12-ranked I’d Hit That (14).
Bump it Up defeated Sloppy Sets in their first playoff game, but then were relegated by No. 3-seeded Kiss My Pass (80).
I’d Hit That lost to Spiked Punch in their initial postseason contest.
On the ‘A’ Side, One Hit Wonders and Spiked Pucnh will square off at 7 p.m. at St. Michael’s School, followed by Kiss My Pass taking on Scared Hitless at 8 p.m.
The winners will get a berth in the ‘A’ Side semifinal next week.
