Women’s fastball cancelled

Staff

After the top half of the first inning, the score is 1-0 for Mother Nature.
Yesterday’s inclement weather proved too much to overcome for the Rainy River Women’s District Fastball League, which saw all six of its season-opening games postponed.
That included the inaugural game for the expansion Fort Frances MudDogs, who were scheduled to face the Fort Frances Juniors at the St. Francis Sportsfields.
Also sidelined were the Fort Frances Herricanes, who were to host the Big Island Huskies, and the Couchiching Lady Raiders at the Big Grassy Lynx.
The same fate may befall the Rainy River District Fastball League, which is slated to open its season tonight.
Scheduled games include Sight & Sound facing the newly-renamed Windy’s Warriors (formerly Beef’s Warriors) at Couchiching.
Meanwhile, an expansion team based out of Fort Frances going under the name of its organizer, Jesse Tom, who recently moved here from Big Grassy, is scheduled to host the Sabaskong Cubs at the St. Francis Sportsfields.
Action is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. (weather permitting).
The women’s league is slated to resume action tomorrow at 7 p.m.
