Wolves open season with win

The local Sight & Sound Wolves kicked off the Rainy River District Fastball League season by edging the visiting Big Grassy Lightning 10-9 at VanJura Stadium last night.
Bob Andy and Duane Carlson homered for the Wolves while Jeff Morrison, Ryan Kirkrude, and Billy Copenace went deep for the Lightning.
Andy picked up the win on the mound while Morrison took the loss.
In other action, Manitou knocked off Northwest Bay 12-9 in a battle of expansion teams.
Elvis Debungee picked up the win for Manitou while Terry Smith was tagged with the loss.
Meanwhile, the Barwick Blue Knights hammered the expansion Big Grassy Braves 17-5.
J.J. Landry earned the win while Jesse Tom took the loss.
The evening’s fourth game saw Rainy River bounce Stratton 10-4.
Murray Armstrong got the win, with Rob McGinnis being shouldered with the loss.
McGinnis also went deep for his first homer of the year.
Lastly, Sabaskong downed Big Island 4-1, with Joe Jack taking the win for the Cubs.
Rueben Gibbins got stuck with the loss.
