Wolves extend Thunder slide

Someone forgot to tell the Fort William Wolves they were struggling.
Riding a three-game losing streak heading into action this past weekend, the Wolves waltzed into the Ice for Kids Arena and captured three of a possible four points from the first-place Borderland Thunder.
The Thunder surrendered a 2-0 lead Friday night, then needed Kevin Webb’s second goal of the night with 43 seconds left in regulation time, to salvage a 4-4 tie.
Nathan McIntee, in just his second game with the Thunder since being picked up last week from the Southeast Blades of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League, added his first SIJHL goal while Josh McAndrew had the other marker.
SIJHL scoring leader Spencer Bodnar scored twice for the Wolves while Steve Atkins and Wes Thom added singles.
On Saturday night, Fort William erased a 5-1 deficit, came up with their own last-minute goal, and then closed the deal in overtime to steal a 6-5 victory.
Tom Grant forced a turnover at the Thunder blueline and fed Thom, who walked in and beat goalie Jamie Munro for his second goal of the game with a stick-side wrist shot at 3:42 of the extra frame.
Matt Heerema, Grant, Mike Greaves, and Jarryd Brend had the other goals for Fort William (7-7-2-3), who beat the Thunder for the first time in four tries so far this season.
Webb, McAndrew, A.J. Tucker, Kurt Hogard, and Chad Baldwin hit the twine for the Thunder (10-3-3-1), who have won only two of their last seven games after starting the season on a 10-game unbeaten streak.
The Thunder next play the first of five-straight road games this Saturday night in Thunder Bay against the Wolves before facing the Nipigon Hawks on Sunday afternoon.
The Thunder’s next home games are slated Dec. 13-14 against the Thunder Bay KC Bulldogs.
