Wolves double Lightning to advance in playoffs

The Sight & Sound Wolves kept up their winning streak in the second round of the Rainy River District Fastball League playoffs last night.
The No. 3 Wolves were able to shut down the No. 2 Big Grassy Lightning’s prolific attack en route to a 4-2 victory.
Bob Andy picked up the win for Sight & Sound, while Melvin Major shouldered the loss for Big Grassy.
The Wolves will advance to face the top-ranked Barwick Knights, who advanced with a 4-0 blanking of No. 5 Rainy River.
J.J. Landry earned the win, while Murray Armstrong was tagged with the loss.
Meanwhile, the Lightning will attempt to stay alive against their crosstown rival, the No. 4 Big Grassy Braves.
The Braves hammered Big Island 37-0, picking up a pair of home runs from Buckley Morrison and individuals from Brian Hooker and Travis Tom.
Tom also pitched the victory, while Matt Comegan took the loss for the No. 9 Huskies, who fell out of playoff contention.
In last night’s other action, No. 6 Sabaskong dumped No. 7 Stratton 11-2 to advance to face Rainy River.
Sabaskong’s Cecil Copenace went deep twice, while winning pitcher Don Copenace also tagged a homer in his own support.
Guy Arpin was on the hill for the Eagles, who dropped out of the postseason.
