Wolves advance to final

The Sight & Sounds Wolves are one win away from repeating as the Rainy River District Fastball League champs.
The Wolves, who finished in third place during the regular season, upset the top-ranked Barwick Knights 8-1 on Tuesday night.
Grant Swire went deep to help pace the Wolves’ offence while RRDFL home run king Kevin Gemmell took winning pitcher John Desaulniers yard for the Knights’ lone run of the game.
J.J. Landry was tagged with the loss.
With the loss, the Knights drop to the ‘B’-side and now await the winner of the game between the Sabaskong Cubs and Big Grassy Braves.
The Cubs and Braves both staved off elimination with wins on Tuesday night.
No. 6 Sabaskong knocked the No. 5 Rainy River out of further contention with an 8-2 victory, with Sheldon Kelly earning the win over Murray Armstrong.
Meanwhile, the No. 4 Braves edged the No. 2 Big Grassy Lightning 2-1 to advance.
Travis Tom outduelled Jeff Morrison in that one.
The showdown between Sabaskong and the Braves is slated for this coming Tuesday (Aug. 17), with the winner advancing to face Barwick next Thursday (Aug. 19).
That winner then will meet the Wolves in the final on Tuesday, Aug. 24.
However, since the playoffs feature a double-knockout format, the unbeaten Wolves would be granted a reprieve if they lose that game, getting a second chance at the RRDFL crown on Thursday, Aug. 26.
