Two Manitoba hoops squads had more than just a higher odometer and blisters on their feet to show for their travelling trouble.
Team Albert slipped past the Cyclones 62-56 in Sunday’s all-Winnipeg final at the 23rd annual La Place Rendez-Vous basketball tournament at Fort Frances High School.
Three wins in three outings gave Team Albert bragging rights in the six-team field, as they squeaked past La Place Rendez-Vous 80-79 and downed Sioux Lookout 82-69 before finishing off the Cyclones to take the title.
The Cyclones had earlier beaten Jam 21 68-64 and walloped Kenora 102-77.
In the third place game, Sioux Lookout dispatched Kenora 92-58 after earlier beating La Place Rendez-Vous 79-64 and falling to Team Albert.
Kenora didn’t go home empty-handed, though, taking an 86-83 victory over Jam 21 with them.
In the showdown for fifth place, Jam 21 broke open a tight game with a late second-half surge to defeat La Place Rendez-Vous 83-76.
