Wilson captures first win

Coming into Saturday night with just two top-five finishes to his credit, Gary Wilson decided the time was right to claim his first checkered flag of the Borderland Racing Association’s season.
The Devlin native beat out three-time winner Brody Strachan of Emo to earn his first win of the year in the WISSOTA Modifieds division at the Emo Speedway.
Ron Korpi of Fort Frances nabbed his first podium finish of the season in placing third while Brandon Pelepetz of Emo was fourth.
With his second-place showing, Strachan widened his division points lead to 33 over Jeff Davis of Devlin (809-776).
Wilson sits third (738) while Korpi is fourth (697).
Wyatt Boyum of International Falls, meanwhile, grabbed his second checkered flag of the season in the Midwest Modifieds feature Saturday night.
A.J. Kellar of Devlin was second, followed by fellow Devlin driver Mike Wilson in third.
Dayton Brady of Devlin still sits atop the division points standings with 792, though just three up on Cody Ossachuk of Fort Frances (789).
James Lambert of Fort Frances is third (731) while Bob Gaudet of Thunder Bay is fourth (627).
As well, Raice Westover of Fort Frances notched his first win of the season in the Street Stocks feature.
Tylar Wilson of Fort Frances finished second while Dean Kellar of Devlin took third.
With the win, Westover vaulted into first place in the points standings with 764–five up on Wilson (759).
Jesse Thompson of Emo sits third (755) while Paul Hari is a distant fourth (541).
Racing resumes this Saturday, with hot laps at 7 p.m. and the first heat at 7:30 (weather permitting).
