With near gale-force winds causing havoc for everyone who took to the pitch yesterday in Dryden, the Muskie boys’ and girls’ soccer teams dealt with the elements as best they could in their second set of NorWOSSA games.
When the dust settled, the boys split their two games while the girls had a loss and a draw to show for their efforts.
The Muskie boys, looking to win a third-straight league crown, opened the day with a 3-0 victory over the host Eagles.
Brandon Sinclair led the way with a pair of goals while the team’s third marker came when a Dryden player put the ball into his own net.
Their second game was a different story, however, as the black-and-gold fell 3-1 to the Kenora Broncos for their first league loss of the season.
Cam Gobeil netted the lone goal for the Muskies, who still remain in first place with a 3-1 record.
The Muskie girls, meanwhile, bounced back from a 2-0 loss to Dryden in the morning by battling Kenora to a 3-3 draw.
Angela Cole, Sydney Radigan, and Jess Caul were the Muskie snipers in that one, with all six goals coming in the first half.
The girls’ squad currently sits in third place with a 1-2-1 mark, but still is in the mix to earn a bye straight to the final by finishing atop the standings.
Both Muskie teams will conclude their regular-season schedule next Wednesday in Kenora.
The NorWOSSA playoffs then will be held the following Wednesday (May 29) in Dryden.
