Taylor Whitehead advanced to the ‘C’ flight quarter-finals at the OFSAA badminton championships with a straight-set victory this morning over Ashton McInnis (Tecumseh).
Whitehead, who is in Grade 9, was to face Yuki Akimoto (Collingwood) this afternoon, with the winner advancing to the ‘C’ semi-finals.
The first-year Muskie opened play on a winning note yesterday in the ‘A’ flight, earning a thrilling three-set affair (22-20, 18-21, 23-21) over Eugene Chan of Oakville.
But Whitehead ran into a bit of trouble as the day wore on.
He lost in two sets (13-21/10-21) to Dan Wei in his second ‘A’ match, then dropped another two-set affair (13-21/14-21) to Andre Genier (Cochrane) in the ‘B’ flight.
With another loss meaning an end to his season, Whitehead was impressive this morning—sweeping McInnis aside by scores of 21-12 and 21-7.
Skylar Arpin of Rainy River, meanwhile, had a chance to advance into the ‘B’ flight quarter-finals as she went up against Tilsonburg’s Jen Pathy this morning.

Arpin, making her second trip to OFSAA, lost to Stephanie Wong (Scarborough) in her ‘A’ flight opener yesterday, but bounced back later in the day with a win over Brianna Paquet (Timmins).
The all-Ontarios, being held in the Chatham area, wrap up tomorrow.
