White lifts tagg’s to tourney crown

Brian White scored his third goal of the game with less than a minute left in overtime to lift tagg’s to a 4-3 victory over the Times Tigers on Sunday afternoon in the ‘A’ final of a Tom Thumb tournament here.
White opened the scoring in the first but the Tigers tied it at 1-1 when Taylor Jorgenson scored, assisted by Josh Sigurdson. Then after White and Paul Dobransky traded goals, Tyler Harris tallied to give tagg’s a 3-2 lead after one.
After a scoreless second period, Dobransky scored his second of the game to knot the score at 3-3, setting the stage for White’s game-winner in overtime.
tagg’s reached the final with a 3-2 victory over Canoe Canada (Atikokan) while the Tigers advanced after edging Keewatin 4-3.
Meanwhile, the ‘B’ final saw the Food Town Fury (Fort Frances) edge BR Davidson (Atikokan) 3-2 on the strength of goals by Matt Plante, Brent Lindberg, and Kyle Sigurdson.

In ‘C’ final action, Current River nipped Rainy River 2-1. Garrett Burke and Nathaniel Ferguson scored for the winners while Joel Ashworth netted Rainy River’s lone goal.
The Dryden Whalers edged Skates & Blades (Fort Frances) 4-3 to win the ‘D’ final. Andrew Easton, Danny Chapman, and Kevin Bobczynski scored for Skates & Blades.
Dryden’s goal scorers were not available.
Fourteen teams participated in the three-day tournament at Memorial Arena, with squads from Atikokan, Dryden, Emo, Sioux Lookout, Rainy River, Current River, Keewatin, and Fort Frances taking part.
