Westfort NAPA skated away with an impressive 5-1 win over Kenora Red Esso to capture the Emo Legion ‘A’ event at an Atom tournament last weekend in Emo.
Leading 2-1 after two, Westfort iced the victory with three unanswered goals in the third. Joseph Zewiec and Jeremy Puhalski each scored twice for the victors while Nick Kowalczyk netted the other goal.
Graham Dunville replied for Kenora.
Meanwhile, the Thunder Bay Bearcats jumped out to a 3-0 lead en route to a narrow 5-4 victory over the Neebing Jets in the Cloverleaf Grocery ‘B’ final.
In fact, Gio Vita (two), Brandon Cordier, Brett Williamson, and Travis Favel made it 5-1 for the Bearcats after two before Neebing made it close on Mathew Pantonin’s natural hat trick in the third.
Gillons’ blanked Causeway 2-0 in a battle of Fort Frances teams in the Emo Inn ‘C’ final on goals by Danny Chapman and Andrew Easton.
Although two Emo teams–the Esso Leafs and Selects–made it out of their respective pools, they did not get through the ‘A’ semi-finals.
The Esso Leafs were eliminated 4-2 by Westfort while the Selects fell 2-1 to Kenora Red Esso in overtime.
Jeremy Puhalski led Westfort with two goals against the Leafs while Andrew Kachkowski and Nick Kowa had singles. Tyler Kinnear and Nathan DeBungee replied for Emo.
Meanwhile, Josh Narkham scored twice, including the game-winner with just 12 seconds left in overtime, to edge the Selects.
Eric Soucy netted Emo’s lone goal.
The other Emo team in the tournament–WOR Novice–was winless in its pool to qualify for the ‘C’ semi-finals while the MEC Bulldogs (Fort Frances) came out of its pool with a win, loss, and tie.
