Weather woes hit fastballers

Weather woes continue to affect both local fastball leagues.
The host Big Grassy Lynx and Northwest Bay battled to a 9-9 tie last night in the only game to get off the ground so far this week in the Rainy River District Women’s Fastball League.
The game had to be halted due to darkness.
Yesterday’s rain, coupled with a funeral service at Red Gut Bay, made it the second time this week that games in the RRDWFL were postponed.
But the host Couchiching Lady Raiders were credited with a 7-0 forfeit win last night after the Sabaskong Tebinaak informed them they could not make the game.
No games originally were scheduled for this Monday due to the Victoria Day holiday, but it was announced yesterday that Couchiching will journey to Big Grassy in a make-up game from this past Monday.
The rest of the teams will have to wait until at least next Wednesday (May 20) to make their season debuts.
Meanwhile, the Barwick Blue Knights (1-0) belted four home runs to hammer the reborn Rainy River Royals 15-4 in the Rainy River District Fastball League action Tuesday night.
Vaughan Wilson, Ryder Woolsey, Mike Anderson, and Brandon Pratt all smacked round-trippers.
Justin Wagner replied with a four-bagger for the host Royals (0-1), who played their first league game in two years after not fielding a team last season.
Pratt also picked up the win on the mound while Carl Big George, Jr. took the loss.
The night’s other game that was able to be played saw Chris Morrisseau toss a gem, and add a home run, to lead the Couchiching Raiders to a 10-5 win over the host Sabaskong Lakers.
Morrisseau outpitched Merlin Kelly while Faron Morrisseau and Cole Calder also hit dingers for the Raiders (1-0).
Kyle Copenace and Moddy Kelly each homered for the Lakers (0-1).
Tonight’s games, set for 7 p.m. (weather permitting), include Team Jesse Tom against Sight & Sound at VanJura and an all-Couchiching match-up between Windy’s Warriors and the Raiders.
