A combination of falling temperatures, tricky highways, and late-arriving cancellations led to a messy night for the Fort Frances Women’s Volleyball League.
A league rule stating all intended postponements must be made by teams before 4 p.m. to avoid being forfeited affected four squads that chose not to challenge the uncertain road conditions brought about by yesterday’s bitter cold.
Second-place Kiss My Pass (60 points), fifth-place Scared Hitless (41), sixth-place Bump It Up (40), and 11th-place Arm & Hammer (13) all were tagged with forfeit losses due to missing the deadline.
That allowed How I Set Your Mother to take full advantage—being be one of four teams to garner the maximum six points to move up to 73 and widen their first-place lead over Kiss My Pass.
Third-place No Diggity (56) also struck for six to pull closer to Kiss My Pass while Let’s Talk About Sets (44) grabbed a half-dozen to vault past Scared Hitless into fourth place.
Gillons’ also nabbed six points to sit in seventh (38).
One Hit Wonders (34) is in eighth place while Serves You Right (23) snuck past The Inseiners (22), who were skunked, for ninth.
Rockstars (seven) were also blanked and currently sit in 12th spot.
Action resumes next Thursday at 7 p.m. at Fort High and St. Michael’s School.
