Voyageurs sweep UMD

The Rainy River Community College Voyageurs women’s hockey team won its first pair of regular league home games over the weekend.
RRCC stomped the visitors from the University of Minnesota Duluth by a 7-1 score on Saturday, followed by a 4-0 shutout Sunday.
Rookie right-winger and Fort Frances native Cortney Caldwell netted two goals in Saturday night’s rout.
Emo natives Sarah O’Sullivan and Hannah Firth also were major contributors to the wins, with O’Sullivan tallying a goal and an assist Friday and Firth notching six assists over the weekend.
But both were overshadowed by Dryden’s Megan Pinette, who scored hat tricks in both contests.
Fort Frances’ Melissa Calder earned the shutout Sunday, turning away all 17 shots for her third shutout in five games—raising her save percentage to .930.
