Voodoos still alive

They backed in but what matters is they’re in.
The NOJHL champion Powassan Voodoos, featuring Fort Frances native Brett Hahkala on its roster, lost their final round-robin game 5-2 to the OJHL champion Georgetown Raiders at the Dudley Hewitt Cup Central Canadian Jr. ‘A’ Championship in Trenton.
But the Voodoos got the helping hand they needed from the host Golden Hawks (OJHL), who walloped the SIJHL champion Dryden GM Ice Dogs 10-4 last night to ensure Powassan finished third.
It also left the fourth-place Ice Dogs on the outside of the playoffs looking in.
The Voodoos and Ice Dogs both had 1-2 records, but Powassan’s three-point win in regulation time, compared to Dryden’s two-point victory in overtime, was the difference.
It will be the Voodoos and the Raiders once again in tonight’s semi-final tonight.
Hahkala, who was a healthy scratch for yesterday’s game, may be back in the lineup tonight after getting no points in his first two games at the tournament.
The winner advances to face Trenton in tomorrow’s final.
The Dudley Hewitt champ then moves on to the RBC Cup national Junior ‘A’ hockey championship May 13-21 in Cobourg.
