Using motorboat nets fine

Press Release

Four U.S. residents have been fined for using a motorboat in Quetico Provincial Park.
Weslie Buell of Oklahoma City, Okla., Chad Selman of Skiatook, Okla., Fredie Buell of Ankeny, Ind., and Don Buell of Elkhart, Ind. were fined a total of $800 under the Provincial Parks and Conservation Reserves Act.
Weslie Buell also was fined $125 for removing a natural object from park grounds, and $50 under the Ontario Fishery Regulations for using barbed fishing hooks.
Court heard that last May 30, conservation officers came across the four men leaving Quetico Park with outboard motors and fuel.
The officers found the motors warm to the touch, indicating the group had used them in the park.
They also found moose antlers with the group’s gear, which Weslie Buell said he found in the park.
Justice of the Peace Pat Clysdale-Cornell heard the cases March 25 in Atikokan.
The Ministry of Natural Resources reminds park users that motorboats are not permitted on the lakes and waterways of Quetico Park, except in the Lac La Croix and Beaverhouse area.
