A funny thing happened on Cole Tymkin’s way back to London–he got detoured through the Lone Star state.
The 18-year-old Fort Frances resident, originally from Rainy River, is in Austin, Tex. today for the opening of training camp with the Dallas Stars after the NHL team yesterday made him one of 62 invitees to the camp.
“It’s pretty crazy,” said the former Muskie and Fort Frances Lakers’ forward, who just took part in the five-day NHL Prospects Tournament in Traverse City, Mich. that ended Tuesday.
“You see them on TV and you grow up watching these guys in the NHL, and now I’m going to be skating with them,” he enthused.
Tymkin, who currently is undrafted by any NHL team, had eight points in 45 regular-season games in his rookie season with the OHL’s London Knights last year.
