Cole Tymkin is London bound.
The 17-year-old Fort Frances resident signed an OHL Standard Players Agreement with the defending Memorial Cup champion London Knights on Tuesday, with the team officially announcing the signing on its Twitter feed yesterday.
“It’s pretty exciting,” enthused Tymkin.
“I had a good feeling after the year I had with the [Fort Frances] Lakers,” he added.
“I put up the numbers not only in points, but in penalty minutes,” Tymkin said.
“I wanted to show my grit and that I could deal with the physicality.”
Tymkin was drafted by the Knights in the fifth round (91st overall) last year.
He made the Lakers’ roster as a 16-year-old this past season, and went on to be named the SIJHL rookie-of-the-year after notching 48 points in 49 games to lead all first-year players.
Tymkin also was no stranger to mixing it up—racking up a team-high 97 penalty minutes.
The Rainy River native spent the 2013-14 season with the Muskie boys’ hockey team, helping them win the NorWOSSA championship.
He then played with the Thunder Bay Minor Midget ‘AAA’ Kings in 2014-15.
The Knights will hold their main training camp Aug. 26-28.
