Trio tops at M.E.C. tourney

Carla Hanzuk, Cheryl Watts, and Jim Halverson teamed up to claim the M.E.C. adult bowling tournament Saturday at Plaza Lanes.
Hanzuk totalled 880 over four games to pace the team, led by a 230 in her final one.
Halverson posted a 733 while Watts chipped in 600 as the team totalled 2,213.
After posting a 509 in their first game, the trio sat tied for fifth. But they heated up with a 590 in their second game to surge into second spot.
The team sat third heading into their fourth and final game, but came through with their finest showing of the day—notching 602 points to claim the title.
The trio of Tom Hebert, Arlene Georgeson, and John Cole ended up in second place.
They were led by Hebert’s combined score of 847, with his top game being a 248 in his second game.
The team scored 2,140 points on the day, finishing 73 out of first place.
Meanwhile, the third-place squad was led by Ken Dick, who finished with the highest four-game total at 1,027.
Dick rolled a 276 in his first game and a 275 in his third to pace the team, which also included Paul Neurinski and Jackie Dobransky.
In all, the team finished with a 2,128 total—85 points off of the top score.
Brenda Hanzuk ended up with the top single-game score, garnering a 278 in her first game.
