Trimble win puts heat on Westover

Images in Ron Westover’s driver’s side mirror are closer than they appear—and one in particular is getting closer by the second.
The defending champion and current points leader in the Street Stock division saw his lead trimmed from 16 to three by fellow Devlin driver Denny Trimble, who grabbed his second feature victory of the season during Borderland Racing Association action Saturday night at the Emo Speedway.
Trimble captured his heat and then the final, with Jeff Wickstrom from International Falls taking second and Emo’s Richard Visser rounding out the top three.
Westover struggled to 10th place in the final and now leads Trimble 407-404 in the overall standings. Emo’s Anthony Visser sits in third with 389 points.
The Modified division, meanwhile, saw another first-time feature winner for this season as Devlin’s Jamie Davis took the checkered flag ahead of Thunder Bay’s Gary Labine and Emo’s Dan Galloway.
Vic Larson of Dryden still holds a sizable lead in the standings with 397 points. Galloway is in second place with 340, barely ahead of Dryden’s Jake Kamm (338).
And in the Mini-Sprints, Ken Perry Sr. of Fort Frances tightened his grip on first place in the division by winning Saturday night’s feature race. Kyle Ridlon of Aurora, Man. finished second while Kenny Perry Jr. grabbed third.
The elder Perry holds a six-point lead over Ridlon in the race for top spot (354-348, while his son remains in third with 322.
Racing action continues this Saturday night, with hot laps starting at 7 p.m. and the green flag dropping at 7:30.
