A Fort Frances team, comprised of players from the local Borderland Soccer League, walked away with the Super 8 Super Cup tournament championship on Saturday in Kenora.
The local squad struggled mightily at last year’s tourney but rolled to victory this time around.

Two Fort Frances players were part of the North Major Squirts team that went 0-3-1 in the Major Squirts category at the ‘AAA’ Minnesota Super Series tournament in Plymouth, Mn. over the weekend.
Defenceman Evan Kabel and goalie Brayton Levesque were part of the North Major roster which tied the East Major Squirts 3-3 in their first game.
North Major then was blanked 5-0 by West Major and nipped 2-1 by South Major to end up in the third-place game.
A much more inspired East Major team then blasted North Major 9-4.

A trio of Fort Frances skaters helped the Northern Storm to a second-place finish in the 10U Tier 1 division at a tournament held jointly in Hermantown, Mn. over the weekend.
Piper Miller, Eva Gerstner, and Kiera Fairnington helped get the squad to the gold-medal game before losing 4-3 to the Midwest Selects (Kansas, Iowa, and Nebraska).
The Storm whitewashed the Green Bay Hornets 5-0, dumped Rapid Fire (Duluth) 10-0, and then coasted past the Selects 8-1.
Meanwhile, Paiten Kinnear of Emo and Isabelle Taylor and Tatum Glowasky of Fort Frances were front and centre for the 12U Storm, who scrapped their way into the Tier 1 final in their division before losing 1-0 to Minnesota Machine Orange.
The younger Storm lost to the Orange 2-1 in the round-robin, but blanked Green Bay 1-0 and then walloped ECA 9-1 to earn a berth in the final.
