A Perrault Falls Lodge owner and three of his guests have been fined a total of $3,400 for assisting underage and unlicensed hunters to hunt black bear.
Michael Briesemeister, of Greenville, Wisconsin, owner of the lodge, was fined a total of $1,500 for three instances of unlawfully hunting bear in 2007 and 2008.
Tom Griesbach, of Hortonville, Wisconsin, was fined $900 for unlawfully hunting bear in 2007 and 2008.
Steve Lawson, of Fond Du Lac, Wisconsin, and Leon Meidam, of Appleton, Wisconsin, were both fined $300 for unlawfully hunting bear in 2008 and an additional $200 each for unlawfully tagging a bear shot by someone else.
The court heard that during the fall of 2008, Red Lake conservation officers investigated several instances of underage and unlicensed hunters killing and exporting black bears. Some of the hunting party members advised conservation officers that the youth were only videotaping the hunt. They had previously been advised by a conservation officer of the restrictions on underage hunters.
Justice of the Peace Marj Pasloski heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice, Red Lake, on July 8, 2009.
