Total domination

The Muskies continued their domination of NorWOSSA so far this hockey season with a pair of lopsided wins over the Sioux Lookout Warriors here over the weekend.
Winning 11-1 Friday night and then 13-0 on Saturday afternoon, the victories left the black-and-gold firmly atop the standings with a 6-0 record.
They’ve also outscored their opponents by a whopping 59-9 margin in those six games.
Friday’s contest was close for the first 20 minutes, with the Muskies leading just 1-0 after one (although it easily could have been 4-0 or 5-0 if not for the goaltending Michael Falk).
At the other end of the ice, Blake Carlson made several impressive saves to keep it the Warriors off the scoreboard.
But the roof caved in with a seven-goal outburst in the second period. The Muskies then sealed the win with three more goals in the final stanza.
Kevin Webb led with way with a hat trick, while Boomer Redford, Tyler Coyle, Adam McTavish, Steve Keesic, Chris Kellar, Jesse Rodrigues, Ross Anderson, and Lorne Koski rounded out the scoring.
Trevor Perlin spoiled Carlson’s shutout bid in the third.
Play also got rough once the game got out of reach in the second period when Sioux Lookout was guilty of several stick infractions and chippy play. But while the Warriors were intent on being flagrant with their sticks, the Muskies were the ones doing the hitting.
Defenceman James Asplund laid out a pair of hard, clean body checks near the blueline, as did Redford and Tom Rose.
On Saturday afternoon, the game was all before it was even four minutes old as the Muskies jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead, then stretched that to 5-zip after 20 minutes.
Asplund was the scoring star in this one, netting three goals. Jeff Savage and Jesse Rodrigues had two each while Kellar, Anderson, Redford, McTavish, David Lloyd, and Rose added singles.
Edwards said he continues to be impressed with the team’s balanced scoring by all four lines. He is also pleased with the offence he’s getting back on the point–particularly the strong play of Redford and Asplund.
“Boomer is a very mature player who handles the puck very well,” said Edwards. “And Asplund has come on since last year and I feel he’s improved his skating.”
While the rest of NorWOSSA is pondering how to stop the powerful Muskies, Edwards admitted routinely beating up on teams by the midway point of the second period could pose some problems.
“You start to pick up some bad habits, you don’t back check, and you start playing with the puck,” he noted after Friday’s win.
