Four Illinois anglers have been fined a total of $3,000 for having 15 walleye more than legally allowed.
Jurek Niklarz, 62, and Janina Niklarz, 53, of Elk Grove, along with Andrew Polaski, 51, and Elvira Polaski, 64, of Chicago, were convicted and fined $750 each.
They were not in court.
Court heard that July 6, Ministry of Natural Resources conservation officers from Red Lake District and the OPP were on a joint marine patrol on Lac Seul near the town of Ear Falls.
The officers checked the four anglers and discovered they had caught too many fish.
Justice of the Peace Joe Morrison heard the case Dec. 1 in Red Lake.
The ministry reminds the public that fish possession limits protect the sustainability of fish populations.
The public can get more information in the 2005-06 Fishing Regulations Summary, which is available at licence issuers, some ministry district offices or Government Information Centres, and on the ministry’s website.
