Mary Beth Tkachuk once again dominated the field at the annual ladies’ “Toothpick” squash tournament here last weekend, capping things off with a 3-0 win over Patti Boileau in the ‘A/B’ final.
Tkachuk swept the best-of-five match by scores of 9-5, 9-6, and 9-5. She also was unbeatable in the round-robin, going 3-0 to earn all nine possible points.
She opened with a victory over Megan Reid (9-1, 10-8, and 9-4), then downed Kris Krag (9-7, 9-4, and 10-8), and Boileau (9-5, 9-6, and 9-7) to earn a berth into the final.
Boileau reached the final after finishing with five points in her three round-robin matches. She swept Reid (9-7, 9-6, and 9-3) but lost 3-2 to Krag (10-9, 8-10, 9-2, 7-9, and 5-9) before falling to Tkachuk.
Meanwhile, Keira Main overcame an early 1-0 deficit to beat Darlene Barrett 3-1 in the best-of-five ‘C’ final Saturday.
Barrett jumped out to a 9-2 win in the first game but Main reeled of wins of 9-2, 9-7, and 9-2 to capture the match.
Main swept all four round-robin games to finish first with 12 points.
She beat Christine Edwards (9-5, 9-4, and 9-3), Barrett (9-2, 9-6, and 10-9), Angie Petsnick (9-4, 9-1, and 9-4), and Shannon Munro (no scores were available).
