Tired Muskies prevail

With their eyes sagging and their tails dragging, the Muskie girls’ hockey team pushed through their fatigue to keep their NorWOSSA winning streak intact.
Playing their third game in three nights, Fort High (6-0) did enough to get the job done last night in a 4-1 victory over the St. Thomas Aquinas Saints in Kenora.
“The kids were pretty tired,” admitted Muskie head coach Todd Hamilton.
“St. Thomas Aquinas pushed the pace in the third because they could see we were tired.”
The Muskies lost 7-4 in exhibition action against the International Falls Broncos here Tuesday, then drubbed the host Kenora Broncos 16-1 on Wednesday before taking to the ice again last night.
Lillie MacKinnon netted her first career goal as a Muskie in the first period, with Annalise (CC) Hayes making it 2-0 in the second.
The Saints got one back 33 seconds into the third on a shot by Hannah Yaremko.
But Jill Calder hit the twine at 6:22 to restore the two-goal advantage.
Captain Janelle Kaemingh iced the victory with an empty-netter with 35 seconds left.
Kamryn Sandelovich earned the win in goal.
The Muskies now get a week off before facing the second-place Dryden Eagles this Thursday (Dec. 8) at 7 p.m. at the ’52 Canadians Arena.
Meanwhile, the Muskie boys’ hockey team host the St. Paul’s Crusaders (Winnipeg) in a pair of exhibition games this weekend.
The first one goes tomorrow at 7:15 p.m. at the Ice For Kids Arena, with the finale set for Sunday at 10 a.m. to “The Duke” (Couchiching Arena).
