Tigers tamed in Tom Thumb final

The Canoe Canada Canadians (Atikokan) blanked the Times Tigers 3-0 on Sunday afternoon in the ‘A’-side final of a 15-team Tom Thumb tournament here.
The Canadians opened the scoring in the first on a goal by Matthew St. Pierre, then made it 2-0 in the second when Michael Kostynuk tallied.
They iced the victory midway through the third on a goal by Doug Curtis.
The Tigers reached the final after a tight 1-0 semi-final win over Skates & Blades (Fort Frances). Taylor Jorgenson netted the game-winner–unassisted–with just 2:14 to play.
Steven Williams earned the shutout in goal.
The Tigers opened action Friday morning with a 2-1 loss to the Dryden Blues. After Logan Allen and Tyson Donais traded first-period goals, Taylor Gardiner notched the game-winner with just over 10 minutes left.
But the Tigers rebounded to dump the Emo Wings 5-0 in their next game Friday afternoon led by a two-goal, three-assist performance from Matt McLellan.
Jorgenson, Josh Sigurdson, and Jol Smith also tallied while Ryan Faragher picked up the shutout in goal.
They made it two-straight later Friday with a 7-2 trouncing of West End Motors (Fort Frances). Jorgenson had the hat trick in that one while Sigurdson, Smith, Brett LeGarde, and McLellan also scored.
Mitchell Cain and Zach Johnston replied for West End Motors.
The Tigers then improved their record in pool play to 3-1 with a 5-3 win Saturday over the Current River Comets (Thunder Bay). Jorgenson led the way with two goals while Smith, McLellan, and Sigurdson also tallied.
Meanwhile, the Canadians reached the ‘A’ final with a 2-1 overtime victory over the Dryden Blues. They finished pool play with a 4-0 record after blanking tagg’s (Fort Frances) 3-0 and FoodTown Fury (Fort Frances) 6-0 before dumping the Rainy River Legion 4-1 and doubling Emo OPP 4-2.
The ‘B’-side final saw the BR Davidson Sharks (Atikokan) skate to a 5-0 shutout over Current River while the Emo Rockets blanked tagg’s 4-0 in the ‘C’ final.
William Brandon paced Emo in the final with a pair of goals while Braden Baker and Charlie DeBungee also tallied. Ryan Witherspoon was flawless in goal for the shutout.
Emo reached the ‘C’ final with a 10-2 drubbing of BBQ Bob’s (Kenora). Brandon scored four times in that one, Baker and Maverick Judson each added a pair, while Bryan Wayash also scored.
The Rockets edged BBQ Bob’s 5-4 in their first game Friday morning on a goal by Judson (his second of the game) with 3:29 to play. Brandon, Baker, and Luke Judson also tallied for Emo.
The Rockets then were doubled 4-2 by Skates & Blades as Brian Glavish scored twice and George Ossachuk and Danny Chapman also tallied. Witherspoon replied with a pair for Emo.
The Rockets later lost 5-2 to BR Davidson (Brandon and DeBungee scored) before rebounding with a 4-2 win over Busch’s Steelers (Fort Frances).
Brandon netted the hat trick while Wayash also scored. Andrew Easton and Brent Lindberg replied for the Steelers.
