Thunderbolts endure tough week

There still was some Emo-Devlin-Barwick Minor Hockey Association action at the Emo Arena this past week.
In the PeeWee division, the Thunderbolts did not fare well, losing three of four games.
The Emo Cobras got three first-period tallies and one more in the second en route to a 4-1 win over the Thunderbolts.
Kurtis Hill (two) and Devin Ball scored in the first period for the Cobras, with Ryan McDowall netting their second-period tally. Tim Sharp saved the Thunderbolts from a whitewash.
In their second game, the Thunderbolts edged visiting IBEW Lightning (Fort Frances) 3-2, getting the game-winner midway through the third on Tyler Romyn’s blast (assisted by Colin Kaemingh).
DJ Mosbeck and Ryan Kaemingh scored first-period goals for the Thunderbolts while Kevin Jackson and Brendan Cawston replied for the visitors.
In their third game, the Thunderbolts found themselves on the losing end of a 5-3 score—their second loss to arch-rival Cobras.
Ryan McDowall, James Saunders, Devin Ball, and Kurt Hill scored for the Cobras (their fifth marksman was not listed) while Jordan Meyers, Cody Drennan, and Colin Kaemingh notched goals for the losers.
Tim Sharp had three assists in a losing cause.
Then to make matters worse, the visiting Lake of the Woods PeeWee ‘B’ team did not give the Thunderbolts any skating room, returning home with 4-0 victory on goals by Mathieu Godin (two), Chad Reed, and Adam Nelson.
In a friendly contest between two Emo teams, the Hawks had no problem soaring over the Leafs 4-1 thanks to three second-period tallies by DJ Mosbeck (two) and Cody Bodnar.
Brandon Benjamin rounded out the Hawks’ scoring in the third while Cole Scheirer had two assists. Devin Meyers netted the Leafs’ lone goal with just 40 seconds to play.
In the only lone Bantam game played, the Emo All-Stars edged the Emo Predators 2-1 on a third-period marker by Chris Mutz. Chris Strachan had scored in the first, with Terry Carmody drawing assists on both goals.
Matt Beacham scored midway through the third for the Predators.
And the Emo Midget Cowboys had better luck all around, winning both their games. Scoring early in the first and adding one each in the second and third periods, they edged Fort Frances Legion 3-1.
Nathan DeBungee connected for two to lead the Cowboys while Tyler Kinnear added their other goal. Mac Lougheed and Eric Soucy had assists.
Kurtis Carlson got the Legion’s lone goal in the first.
Then Fort Frances OPP came to town and meant business against the Cowboys but fell short 6-5 as Craig McTavish scored the game-winner with nine minutes on the clock to complete his hat trick.
Emo got their other goals from Travis Strachan (two) and DeBungee. Blake Starling and Kristine Roehrig each scored twice for Fort Frances, with Matt Love netting their other one.
