The Borderland Thunder will hold its first information meeting on Tuesday (May 15) at 7 p.m. at the Memorial Sports Centre for any interested players aged 16-20 and their parents.
Mike Allison, head coach of the local entry into the inaugural Superior International Junior Hockey League, said the session will include a short presentation on the league followed by a question period.
So far, the Thunder has contacted 60 players about the meeting, 40 of which hail from Rainy River District. But Allison stressed everyone is welcome to attend.
“We want players that are willing to make a commitment,” he said.
The new seven-team, Tier II Junior ‘A’ league was announced Feb. 2. Allison was named head coach May 1, along with assistants Wayne Strachan and Shane Bliss.
Training camp is scheduled to begin Aug. 3-5. But for Tuesday’s meeting, prospective players and their parents don’t have to bring along much.
“Just an open mind and a lot of questions,” said Allison.
