The Borderland Thunder continued their winning ways over the weekend, sweeping the K&A Golden Hawks in Thunder Bay.
Winning 5-2 on Friday and then 4-1 on Saturday saw the Thunder extend their current unbeaten streak to eight games heading into tomorrow night’s game here against the Dryden Ice Dogs.
Andrew Dault (Ian Lockman) got things started Saturday with a goal at 6:46 of the first period. The Thunder then added to their lead in the second as Kurt Hogard (Josh McAndrew/Kevin Webb) netted his 10th of the season.
After Webb (McAndrew/Hogard) made it 3-0, the Hawks got their lone goal against Mike Downer before Webb (Cale David) rounded out the scoring with his second of the period.
The Thunder fired 39 shots on goal while Downer faced 21 shots.
On Friday, the Thunder got off to a quick start by scoring twice in the first three minutes and never looked back.
Nate Weossner (unassisted) put the Thunder up 1-0 at 1:27 of the first, with Webb (McAndrew, Rob Scales) following. McAndrew then made it 3-0 at 15:36.
The Hawks later scored before intermission.
The teams each scored once in the second period. Aaron Boyer (Hogard, David Gooch) tallied on the power play for the Thunder while the Hawks got their own power-play goal six minutes later.
The lone goal of the third was scored by Stephen McLeod (Dault, Kyle Schroder).
