Thunder sweep Bulldogs

The Borderland Thunder raised their record to 19-4-1 after a pair of weekend wins over the KC Bulldogs in Thunder Bay.
Tyler Gordon earned his league-leading fifth shutout as the Thunder cruised to a 4-0 victory Friday night.
Scott Bridgeman (Derek Fisher/Aaron Boyer) opened the scoring in the first period while Sean Councillor (Fisher/Riley Dudar) and Bridgeman (Tyler Barker/Boyer) added second-period markers.
Dennis Morrison (Councillor) rounded out the scoring in the third for the Thunder, who fired 51 shots at the Bulldogs.
Gordon, now sporting a 13-3-1 record on the season, stopped 21 shots for the shutout.
But it was a different story on Saturday as the Thunder needed to rally from a 3-1 deficit to pull out a 4-3 win in overtime.
Andrew Dault (Fisher) netted the game-winner on a power play in the extra frame.
After the Bulldogs grabbed an early 1-0 lead, Barker (Bridgeman/Boyer) knotted the score early in the second period. But the Bulldogs then notched a pair of goals later in the period to make it 3-1.
Councillor (Kurt Hogard/Clayton Windigo) and Bridgeman (Hogard) were able to square things in the third period—setting up Dault’s heroics in overtime.
Tim Higbee got the win between the pipes to boost his record to 6-1 as he stopped 28 of the Bulldogs’ 31 shots. The Thunder had 47 shots on goal.
The Thunder will try to extend their winning ways this Friday (7:30 p.m.) and Saturday (5 p.m.) against those same Bulldogs at the Ice for Kids Arena here.
