Thunder schedule released

There’s no mistaking that rumbling in the distance—the Thunder will be rolling in soon.
The regular season schedule for the third season of the Superior International Junior Hockey League was released Monday, with the circuit’s five teams set to play 48 games, down from last year’s 52 thanks to the Northwest Wis-consin Knights and the Iron Range Yellow Jackets each bowing out of the league this past spring, each taking a one-year hiatus.
The defending SIJHL champion Borderland Thunder will open the regular season with five straight home games at the Ice for Kids Arena, beginning with their opponents in last year’s league final, the Thunder Bay KC Bulldogs on Sept.
The Thunder, who went 33-12- 5-2 to clinch last year’s regular season championship, will also have a five-game homestand in late January and early February.
The league’s all-star game Jan.
28 at the Fort William Gardens in Thunder Bay will fall in the middle of that run of contests.
The road itinerary for the squad begins Oct. 17-18 with a visit to the K&A Golden Hawks (formerly the Feathermen Hawks) for a twogame weekend series.
The Thunder’s biggest road stretch will be a six-game stint in February, which will see them play at home Feb. 3 against the Dryden Ice Dogs and then not see familiar ice again until Feb. 24 in a return match against Dryden.
Borderland completes its regular schedule at home Mar. 5-6 against the Bulldogs.
